Tips to Keep the Critters Away from Your Attic

People are fond of keeping animals as pet. However, it would be difficult if you have pesky critters in your house. They will not respect your home space and will cause damages that can lead to expensive repairs. To keep them away from your attic, you will have to look for ways to deal with these nuisance creatures. However, some of them are protected by the law. Therefore, you will have to get rid of them without causing them any form of harm.

Ways to Get Rid of the Critters in Your Attic

It is essential to remain alert on any signs of infestation in your attic. A lot of homeowners will never pay attention to the exterior of their houses. If you catch the problem during the early stage, you can control the damages and avoid the spread of diseases.

Determine the Animal

Depending on the animal that you are dealing with, the control method that you will use can differ. Different types of trapping and exclusion devices are sold in the market. Some are intended to capture a specific type of critter. You can identify the animals through the tracks that they will leave behind. You may look at their droppings. You can also listen to the sound that they are creating.

Trapping the Animal

To eliminate the infestation in your house, you will have to choose the right type of trapping device. If you plan to use a live trap, we recommend the trap with a sturdy wire gauge. The door should be durable and heavy-duty. There should not be a lot of moving part that will make things complicated. The best trap should be simple to maintain and set-up. Live traps can be a humane solution, but you need to monitor the traps frequently. Keeping the animal inside for an extensive period will be traumatic to the animal.

Identify Their Access Point

When you are dealing with the infestation of a pesky critter, you will need to know how they managed to enter your house. Usually, they will take advantage of the crevices, construction gaps, and vents. Some parts of our house can be easily manipulated by these animals. Remember that some animals can enter a hole that has a diameter of ½ inch. You may use hardware cloth or wire mesh to seal the holes. However, if you have a bat infestation, this is not recommended since they can use this as roosting place. Expanding foam may not be the right sealant for a rodent infestation.

Humane method might be complicated compared to the use of poisons, but it doesn’t come with any risks. There are no toxic ingredients that may cause respiratory infection or contaminate your place. You are also not exposing your pets and kids to the same dangers. You should also reduce the attractants in your house to avoid this situation. A sanitized home may not be 100% guaranteed to prevent infestation but it can reduce the possibility immensely.
